I saw Olivia Newton John on the Today Show talking about having cancer again and I felt so bad for her. She, however, doesn’t seem to be feeling sorry for herself at all. Instead of “fighting” or “battling” cancer she is “thriving through it”. She follows her doctor’s instructions as well as using medical marijuana, exercise and a healthy diet to be at her best. She really inspired me to think about things in a softer way. I also had a conversation with my dad who has been going through extensive dental work that helped put things in perspective. He felt that not only was he lucky to be able to get the work done, but the discomfort and expense were only temporary.
It really shows how your attitude can dramatically adjust your view of a situation. I know people who have situations that are terrible and they aren’t likely to change. I’m so lucky not to be one of those people, and I am going to take time everyday to be grateful for that. When I look at my challenges I realize that not only are they most likely temporary, but they are almost completely within my power to change.
I feel hopeful and excited about taking on the things in my life that I would like to improve. I am ready to do things for myself and my family that are good for us in a kind and non judgemental way. I have learned so many helpful things since I began my mental health journey two years ago and I know I can thrive through it.
Do your thrifty best!
