Luckily for me there is no deadline on self improvement. I have had the same goals of losing weight and saving money for what seems like forever with very little visible results. I thought moving would provide such a fresh start that change would suddenly be easy or automatic. New home, new lifestyle. Seems reasonable, right? However, with moving comes plenty of excuses to go out and eat and drink. Everything from the kitchen is packed to let’s explore the new neighborhood.
Even though I haven’t really lost weight or started saving I do not feel discouraged. I’ve been reading a lot about why we do the things we do and I have learned a ton of new ideas that I have already put into practice. All of those little things have added up to several conversations with my husband that have given me a better understanding of both our current situation and what will work best for us. Everything is starting to generate both positive changes and a positive attitude about those changes.
All of this got me thinking about that infamous “aha” moment that everyone, including Oprah, talks about. That moment when it all just clicks and suddenly you know without a doubt that you would rather skip happy hour than your scheduled workout. I’ve noticed that when I do something that supports my goals I feel good and that makes me want to keep doing it. Then I start to think of more things I can do to get that same good feeling. That’s when it hit me! Thinking of it as something that just happens out of the blue is like when people say someone got famous overnight and the person often responds with something like “It only took me 15 years to become famous overnight.” The “aha” moment is really an accumulation of all those little wins you’ve been racking up. I’m excited to keep stacking up my wins and see what happens next!
Do your thrifty best!
